Naked Friday in the office

A business consultant in Britain boosted team spirit and performance in an office by having them work naked. He had them perform various tasks in the days leading up to the Naked Friday to help them get over their nervousness. The experiment was filmed and Naked Office is to be screened July 9th on the British cable channel Virgin1.

David Taylor, the consultant, reasoned that, by stripping off their clothes, staff could also strip away inhibitions and talk to each other more openly and honestly. The office staff had no problem with it and only two didn’t completely disrobe.

Sam Jackson, one of the managers, said, “It was brilliant. Now that we’ve seen each other naked, there are no barriers. … There was a point where I thought, ‘I don’t want to get my clothes on.’”

Managing Director Mike Owen added, “I recommend anyone to do what we did. It’s not a sexual thing. If you do anything scary as a company, it encourages bonding. We have been so much closer since, professionally and personally. It’s given us that boost I wanted.”

Will Naked Fridays catch on in corporate America? Yeah, right. But we can dream, can’t we?

Pop Culture Doesn’t Get It

NuditySignJaunted, The Pop Culture Travel Guide’s article, Bare It All This Weekend At Our Top 3 US Nude Beaches, further showed that “pop culture” still doesn’t get it. Instead of mentioning the positive aspects of nude recreation, they gave us the usual snide remarks about showing off and dangly bits.

Apparently, Gunnison, Black’s Beach and Haulover are in Jaunted’s “rolodex of scandalous vacation locations.” Truth be known, there is nothing scandalous about a nude beach. It’s just ordinary, normal people enjoying the beach just like everyone else, except that they’ve discovered that it’s better without a damp, soggy swimsuit full of sand.

And one more thing, Jaunted editors. the clothing-optional sections of Haulover, Black’s and Gunnison Beaches are all family-friendly. We naturists do our best to keep it that way.

Wardens to patrol nudist beach

Wardens will patrol a nudist beach on the Studland peninsula in England to try to stop occasional sexual misconduct that police say “threatens to bring naturism into disrepute.” There have been nine sex offenses reported between 2005 and 2008. They will also target littering and unauthorized fires and barbeques.

A Safe Neighbourhood sergeant said that the Studland peninsula has welcomed naturists for more than 90 years within an area that has been designated as an official naturist beach. He further stated that it “is a very safe place where families can enjoy the summer.”

The addition of wardens to beach rangers and police is the result of police working with The National Trust and the Studland Beach Users Action Group and would help to make visitors and residents feel even safer.

This appears to be a win-win situation. Local authorities are working together with naturists to maintain a safe environment for families. Wouldn’t it be nice to see cooperation like that here in the colonies? It might clear up a lot of perceived problems and take care of some real problems.

More Zen: Naturist Ego

Today the Come As You Are blog topic is More Zen: Naturist Ego. Even though Naturism is often practiced socially, it is basically something we do for ourselves.

I realized that Naturism is a fundamentally personal activity. The only way it can be successfully practiced with others is if one enjoys it alone because they get something out of it personally, their actions are unaffected by what other people choose to do, and is concerned with what they think of themselves instead of what other think of them. That seems to be very egotistical outlook, but in reality it is a healthy way to be in this instance. Self esteem is critically important and probably nothing challenges one’s self esteem more than social Naturism. A Naturist must be self-defining instead of defined by others. Psychologists struggle to get their therapy patients to that level and Naturism is a road to that destination. Naturists define themselves instead of being defined by others.

It makes sense. When I’ve thought about the reasons I like to be nude and the benefits of being clothes-free, most of them are personal, they’re about me. It seemed kind of selfish but maybe it really isn’t. Acceptance of others is preceded by self-acceptance. I think he’s right, as naturists, we do define ourselves rather than let others define us. There are many common elements in our definitions but ultimately, we came about that definition ourselves.

Now I can add one more benefit of naturism — it’s cheaper than therapy.

Topfree in Key West?

I saw this on the Over40 Nudists group on Yahoo! but haven’t found anything to confirm it.

From South Florida Free Beaches/Florida Naturist Association Richard Mason, Star Reporter for the world famous The Sundial Naturist news publication

Stories out of Key West concerning the position of the Monroe County (Florida Keys) State Attorney, Dennis Ward, that he would no longer prosecute women cited or arrested for top free sunbathing in the Florida Keys or Key West had to be checked out.

On Tuesday, June 23rd, I met with an Assistant State Attorney on the issue.

I was told that the State Attorney’s office would not prosecute any women cited for top free sunbathing in his jurisdiction, which is Monroe County in the Florida Keys if the women is cited under Florida state statute law and brought to his office for prosecution.

Things for women to be aware of:

Key West has an anti-nudity law. Key West Police cite women under the Key West Code. These cases are not prosecuted by the state attorney, but by the city attorney in a city court

There are several incorporated cities in the Florida Keys. We do not know at this time if these cities have anti nudity ordinances or not. Also, which statutes or code they may cite a women.

Most of the Florida Keys are in un-incorporated Monroe County and policed by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office. There are seven county parks in the Florida Keys. One of these is Higgs Beach in the city of Key West. This beach has a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the park.

It was reported to me that two women were playing volley ball top free, yesterday, Tuesday. This was observed by several city officials who were having lunch at the Salute restaurant which is on the beach.

There were no complaints filed and those present commented that it appeared so natural that no one paid much attention to the incident.

Progress

If anyone can provide a source or confirm this, please leave a comment.

National Commando Day

The first ever National Commando Day is July 31, 2009. The idea behind the day is to support prostate cancer awareness.

National Commando Day is when people will practice being unbound by their underwear together. A new level of freedom and unity will emerge knowing that others have also decided to free themselves.

Prostate cancer is a disease that men don’t like to talk about but maybe they should. Personally, I don’t have a problem with my annual prostate exam. Sure, it’s a little uncomfortable but compared to surgery or chemo therapy, it’s a minor inconvenience.

Actually, I don’t need a special day to go commando. I enjoy the freedom and comfort of it everyday (except when the cold winter wind tests my frosticles) but prostate cancer awareness is a good reason. Can I get a button to wear?

Nude Beach in Cleveland?

I saw this on The Buckeye Naturists blog and figured I’d try to help it along.

Greetings Fellow Naturists! We have received word of a movement to create a legal nude beach in the Cleveland area and are glad to pass it along:

Hello, from a fellow Buckeye naturist! I’m in the Cleveland area, and I’m pretty much in the same boat as the rest of the state when it comes to nude beaches in the state of Ohio. A local website has been created to bring “Good Ideas” to the front of the local political and business leaders of the greater Cleveland area. The website is www.clevelandideas.com. I posted a message on that site called “Nude beach on Cleveland’s Lake Erie shore?” Check it out here:

http://www.clevelandideas.com/story.php?title=nude-beach-on-clevelands-lake-erie-shore

I’m trying to get the “VOTE” count up on this link, so that it may be taken seriously! I understand that as the law is currently written, nude beaches are not legal in Ohio. With a strong showing from this webpage, maybe, just maybe things can turn around, and we can get a legal nude beach(es) in Ohio. If you do visit the site, please hit the VOTE button on the left side of the screen!

I’m asking if you would be willing to post this on you blog, since it does concern Buckeye Naturists.

Thanks,
Rob (aka Nytro)

Rob has promoted this idea on some of the naturist social networking sites which is where I first learned of it. I think it’s a great idea. Even if you don’t live in Cleveland, go to the site, vote Yes and leave some positive comments. Even if it doesn’t become a reality in Cleveland, maybe it can help convince other localities that a nude beach on Lake Eire makes good economic sense or help lead to opening up areas in State Parks for nude use. It’s worth a shot.

NAC Update -San Onofre State Beach

NAC has released an update on the situation at San Onofre State Beach. The update mainly discusses AANR’s meetings with the California Department of Parks and Recreation which further muddied the waters by somehow attempting to append “remoteness” as a condition of the Cahill policy. NAC contends that the remoteness of an area is not a condition.

Once again, we seem to have our national organizations opposing each other. While they seem to have a common goal at San Onofre, they are taking different approaches when they should be working in concert with one another.

The Nudiarist Returns

natureboyPerhaps Farewell, Nudiarist was a bit premature. I thought he had removed himself from the nudist blogosphere, especially after the rough treatment he took in the TNS group on Facebook, but he is coming out with a series of new blogs. It looks as though he’s splittng his various naturist interests into separate blogs. I can see where keeping things separate might be a good way to go.

I wish him success with his new blogs. One of the things I appreciated in his Diary of a Nudist blog was his willingness to bring out topics that might not have an obvious connection to naturism but could affect legislation and public opinion and affect naturism down the road. It seems that many naturists and naturists groups are reluctant to discuss or become involved.
